Serenity Circle - September 2019

"Pleasure is spread throughout the earth in stray gifts
to be claimed by whoever will find them."
-- William Wordsworth ---

This month's serenity post comes from the Scottish countryside.  Hubby and myself often head out into the country to enjoy the scenery.  Some of our favourite places include Inverurie, Royal Deeside, and Banff.  We often bring a picnic hamper packed with all kinds of goodies for lunch and stop somewhere scenic to enjoy the views.  This past weekend was no different and we headed out towards Banff.

En-route, we spotted these flowers growing under the shade of a tree close to the roadside.  The flowers had the most gorgeous colour and looked captivating and beautiful swaying in the wind.

"I firmly believe that nature
bring solace in all troubles."
-- Anne Frank --

I studied them closely for a few minutes, trying to find the best light and angle in which to capture them, whilst at the same time hoping to convey how I could see and feel them in my mind's eye.  I was totally engrossed.  This is how photographing nature affects me, lol.  I call it therapy!

Later the same afternoon, we visited an old cottage which is in need of complete renovation.  We renovated a steading some years ago and are not afraid to tackle a restoration job again in the future.  However, we did rule out this particular job!

The cottage garden was completely overgrown and a mass of weeds and dried up flowers.  Not very inspiring at first glance, but not every flower needs to be in full bloom with delicate soft coloured petals to look beautiful.  Sometimes, if you look close enough, even flowers and plants that have shrivelled up and lost their foliage can look beautiful in the right kind of light.

"Photography is an art of observation.
It has little to do with the things you see
and everything to do with the way you see them."
-- Elliot Erwitt --

Next, we are heading across to Canada with Lori, McLellan, Fine Art Photographer from Calgary, Alberta and her post, "Finding Serenity in the Outdoors".  As always, I'm really looking forward to what Lori and the girls have to share this month and invite you to follow the circle around and enjoy all our shares too.

About:  We are a collaborative group of photographers from various parts of the world - some working professionals, others hobbyists like myself.  The Serenity Circle represents a wide range of photography genres with the common theme being serenity moments experienced and captured during the past month.  This particular circle was established in April 2015 and is one of the longest running of its kind online.  It was set up by Nadeen Flynn, multi-genre photographer and teacher from Northern California.  Nadeen has since moved on to other ventures both online and beyond and we wish her all the very best.

The Serenity Circle goes live on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Wendy, I love your take on Serenity. It sounds as if you had a perfect day with lots of beautiful finds. Your lens choice in all of these are perfection.

Gorgeous set of images Wendy, I love the window one but can see why you wouldn't want to take it on as a project ! x

Thank you Joan. It was a lovely day.

You should've seen the rest of the cottage Janet! We went inside but didn't venture far....the floor boards were a bit dodgy and there was woodworm evidence everywhere!

You have described a beautiful, relaxed day in the country exploring. I find it interesting that you have a "Banff" in your country as well! Beautiful details in your photos, Wendy.

Thank you so much Nadeen.

Thank you Lori. I just noticed the sane thing yeserday! Banff, Aberdeenshire is a small seaside town on the BE coast. We often take a coastal drive there and around the rugged coas.

These are beautiful Wendy. I love your gorgeous rich greens. What a lovely idea too to take a hamper with you! Must make for a lovely day out and will definitely give that a try!

Thanks Jilluan.

A picnic lunch in the countryside is lovely. We purchased the picnic basket 3 years ago but only started using it recently. You can also use a basket and cover it with a tea towel. I purchased 2 small flasks for tea and coffee and they fit perfect. Love it!

So beautiful. I enjoy trips into the countryside as well but don't go nearly as often as I should.
