Serenity Circle - October 2018

"I can smell autumn in the breeze.
The sweet chill of pumpkin
and crispy sunburnt leaves."
-- Anon --

Photography has been really challenging these past few weeks. The stormy weather experienced all over the UK has left us with dull and extremely overcast skies - not at all inspiring and anything but serene.

It was fast approaching the 3rd Wednesday of the week, when a group of photographers - myself included - come together and share moments of calm captured during the course of the month.  Help!  I certainly wasn't feeling calm or serene when I realised our project was a couple of days away and the weather, as aforementioned, was making it difficult for outdoor photography!  So what is a girl to do to overcome such difficulties and restore some equilibrium....?

..... Tee hee.... soft box to the rescue and serenity restored, lol!  My image may not be a serenity scene as such, but it was calming being able to carry on shooting photography under the circumstances.  I used my Lensababy Velvet 56 lens and applied a textured painterly effect in post processing to achieve the old-worldly result I was after.

What action have you taken recently to overcome a stressful situation and regain a sense of calm?

Next in the circle is the talented Maibritt Olsen from Houston, Texas.  Please click here to follow the circle around and find out where Maibritt and the other girls have found their serenity moments this month.

I absolutely love the autumnal feel and texture to this image, Wendy! Beautiful! I love autumn but I hope your weather improves.

Thank you so much Eileen. I love autumn time too. Love the changing colours, although the weather hasn't allowed for much trips out to enjoy such so far this year. Hopefully this weekend - the forecast is better then.

Yes, I have heard that the weather overseas is a little stormy. I am glad that you came up with a subject indoors. That is pretty much what I have to do during the summer months here. Such a beautiful image you have created with artificial light. I hope that the storms are getting fewer.

So glad you persevered to get this autumnal image! I love the vintage look you created.

Thank you Lori. I'm really into vintage styles when it comes to photography. Would love to capture some hygee images in this style also.

Thank you Iris. Have to be grateful that while we've had wind and rain, its nothing like elsewhere in the world, e.g. the California's, etc. Forecasters are predicting an early snowfall this winter and heavy snow. I believe that is possible. We had such a long dry summer and so we can't complain.

Such a beautiful image conveying peace and autumn. I feel like I'm sitting by a fire enjoying this scene as it has such a warm glow.

Thank you Nadeen. I added a graduated filter to make it glow a little more.

Wendy, this is stunning!! I love your still life work so much! This definitely embodies serenity. The act of slowing down and paying attention to detail. It's a meditative practice. I love that you used OCF too. Looks so natural.
